SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Thanks to help from the community (voting online) Sahuarita Intermediate will have the chance to improve their new music room.
The school won a $10,000 grant from Frigo Cheese and National Geographic, according to a release from the Sahuarita Unified School District. Some 2,800 schools submitted applications to participate in the Build a Bright Future Promotion contest. Sahuarita Intermediate was one of five schools selected to compete for the grand prize.
Volunteer coordinator, Jessica Grimm heard about the competition and decided to apply, pointing out that the school recently renovated a locker room into a new music room. Lack of instruments, music resources, or a sound system for the music teacher to use.
With the grant money Sahuarita Intermediate plans to purchase instruments, sound system and a musical library of resources for the students to use, giving the music program a chance to grow.
In addition to the grant, Sahuarita Intermediate will receive a school visit from National Geographic Emerging Explorer Live Show, $1,500 of National Geographic books and educational materials, and a 1-year National Geographic Kids magazine subscription for every student.
