The Pima College women’s basketball team beat Gillette (WY) 80-52 Thursday night on the opening day of the Native American Classic, a junior college basketball tournament being hosted by Tohono O'odham College in conjunction with the Aztecs at Pima's West campus.
The victory was the 200th of Todd Holthaus’ career. He is in his 10th season at PCC and is the program’s all-time winningest coach.
Sophomore guard Denesia Smith led the Aztecs (3-1) with 15 points while Bree Cates had 11.
The Aztec women's team will play three games at the tournament including a matchup against Illinois Central College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Illinois Central beat Pima 77-74 at last year's NJCAA Division II National Tournament semifinal.
