MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Junior guard Alyssa Perez scored 19 as Marana dominated Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep at home Friday night, winning 46-24.

It was the Tigers (5-1) fourth straight victory.

Marana went 3-1 to start the season at the Boyd Baker Tournament last weekend posting wins against Rio Rico, Buena and a rout of Salpointe Catholic while losing a one-point affair to Rincon-University.

Camron Dozier’s squad is coming off a 13-15 season in 2015-16 where they finished third in Division II Section IV behind Tucson and Ironwood Ridge. The Tigers lost in the first round of the state tournament to Cienega (48-40).

Marana is returning their entire starting five from last season, including Perez who averaged 12 points per game as a sophomore and senior forward Mele Hala’ufia who posted eight points and eight rebounds per contest.

Perez is off to a solid start to this season averaging 17.5 points through six games.

Dozier’s team is now in the 5A Sonoran Conference with Flowing Wells, Cholla, Poston Butte and Desert View.

The Tigers travel to Empire on Tuesday night.
