TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Brandon Bean trophy ball is staying home, at least on the girls’ side of the coin

Salpointe Catholic junior goalkeeper Madison Hargis stopped three shots in the penalty kick shootout to help hand the host Lancers a 1-0 victory (3-1 in penalty kicks) over Rincon-University.

It was the Lancers second penalty kick result of the day as they also beat Tucson 3-1 in the morning semifinal.

Salpointe Catholic had gone six years without winning their annual season opening tournament but now they have won the title two years in a row

The Lancers are coming off a 23-2 season in 2015-16 in which they advanced to the Division II state championship match, losing the Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep 1-0.

Top-seed Tucson High won the Brandon Bean boys’ championship for a second straight year. The Badgers beat Cienega 1-0 thanks to a second half goal by Javier Martinez.
