TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Saguaro National Park East (Rincon Mountain District) is looking for volunteers for a buffelgrass pulling event.
According to a release the event is Saturday, Dec. 10, and those interested in helping need to meet at the SNP Rincon Mountain Visitor Center (3693 S. Old Spanish Trail, Tucson, AZ 85730) at 8 a.m., the event is expected to be over by noon.
Volunteers should park in the gravel parking lot that is west of the Resources building (the first right turn after entering the park, follow the signs to the parking area south of the visitor center parking lot), carpooling to the park is highly recommended.
From the visitor center, both park staff and volunteers will carpool a short distance to the work site, from there they will hike off trail to where the buffelgrass needs to be pulled. The terrain is moderately challenging, so please be prepared.
Those helping out should wear long pants, close-toe shoes (hiking boots suggested), a hat, eye and sun protection, as well as plenty of water (at least two liters) and a snack. Park staff will turn away any volunteer that is not sufficiently prepared.
