LINCOLN, NE - The Arizona volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Friday afternoon at the Devaney Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, when eighth-seeded Washington ended Arizona's NCAA Tournament run in the Sweet 16 (25-15, 25-22, 25-18).
It wrapped up a historical season for Arizona, which saw UA advance to its eighth Sweet 16 and earn its 15th 20-win season.
The Wildcats, who advanced to the Sweet 16 as an unseeded team after upsetting ninth-seeded Michigan State in East Lansing last week, defeated eight ranked opponents in 2016, but were unable to solve the Pac-12 Champion Huskies, who defeated Arizona for the third time this season on Friday and for the 12th time in a row overall.
"It's always disappointing when the last match of the season ends on a loss," said head coach Dave Rubio. "It's been a historical season for us and the reason is because of the senior class. It's hard for us to have perspective because it hurts right now, but as time passes by, we'll all look back fondly on the year."
Arizona's senior class graduates as the winningest class at Arizona since 2003. The seniors were a part of 83 victories at UA and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons, a first at UA since the 2005 class.
