TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

New numbers from the Department of Highway Safety show drivers are speeding around Project Ina.

Construction for the project began just over two weeks ago.

Law enforcement decreased the speed limit in the area on both sides of the highway from 65 miles per hour, to 45 miles per hour.

In 15 days, the Department of Public Safety has handed out 95 tickets to drivers who were speeding.

A few years ago, a similar project impacted the freeway near Prince Road.

From 2012 to 2013, DPS ticketed 500 people for speeding. By comparison, DPS says they are handing out tickets at five times the rate on Ina compared to Prince.

Officials say getting a speeding ticket isn’t cheap.

Here's a look at the costs:

  • Going 10 miles over = $160.
  • Going 15 miles over = $208.
  • Going 20 miles over = $227.
  • Going 30 miles over = $381.

Drivers can expect to add about $70 to those costs for court and other legal fees.

Troopers with DPS say this is just one more reminder for drivers to slow down, especially near Project Ina.

The Ina Project will last two years.
