SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Walden Grove High School varsity dance team captured first place at the recent Arizona State Cheerleading/Pom state competition in the Division 1 Large Hip Hop category.

The win at the state competition follows the recent performance at the pregame show for the Phoenix Suns after a recording of the team’s Pixar dance routine went viral.

The Walden Grove dance team scored 295/300, earning the most points and topping seven competing teams to take the state championship. Under the direction of head coach and choreographer, Kristi Lopez, this is the third year in a row that the Walden Grove dance team has secured the state championship.

The dance team will be recognized at an award celebration on Thursday, March 9 at 2:30 pm at Walden Grove High School. 
 
Members of the dance team include: Cori Anderson, Andrea Carrillo, Sarah Cole, Taylor Corbit, Malina Desouza, Thalia Dionisio, Lexus Escarcega, Sophia Gonzalez Herrera, Marlon Harmon, Jasmine Joseph, Gabriela Liquidano, Destiny Martinez Wood, Celeste Martinez, Bianca Perez, Viviana Pesqueira, Carlos Quihuiz, and Jordan Quillin. 
 
Walden Grove High School opened in the fall of 2010 and is the newest high school in the Sahuarita Unified School District.
