TUCSON, AZ - Alfonso Rivas hit his second career home run, JC Cloney picked up his fourth win in four starts and the Arizona Wildcats scored a season high in runs Friday night, topping Hartford 21-5 in front of 2,861 fans at Hi Corbett Field.
The Cats had 19 hits, saw six players register multi-hit games and scored their most runs since a 23-1 win over Sacramento State last season.
Leadoff hitter Mitchell Morimoto went 3 for 5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base and is now hitting .480 through 13 games this season. JJ Matijevic also had three hits, going 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI and runs scored to go with a stolen base. Rivas finished 2 for 3 with two RBI, the home run and two walks.
Cloney (4-0) went five innings, giving up three earned runs, striking out two and not issuing a walk over 76 pitches. Luke Soroko pitched the final four innings, not allowing an earned run, and picked up his first career save.
Arizona will look to win the series Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., with right-hander Michael Flynn getting the start for the Wildcats.
