TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault and kidnapping that happened in Tucson early Friday morning, authorities said.

The Tucson Police Department said Johnny Angel Salazar was arrested Monday, March 13, near Grant Road and North 1st Avenue.

"Thanks to our media partners and everyone who posted or shared the information on various social media sites, the sexual assault suspect has been identified and arrested," the TPD said in a news release.

According to the TPD, the 32-year-old Salazar attacked the victim in the 900 block of East Speedway Boulevard.

The victim, a female in her late teens, told authorities Salazar brandished a large knife and threatened to harm her if she didn't do as he told her. Salazar then  sexually assaulted the victim several times before releasing her and fleeing the area, the TPD said.

Salazar made his first court appearance Monday night. He is being held on a $200,000 bond and his next court date is set for Thursday, March 23.
