TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Crews contracted by the City of Tucson are working 24 hours a day, Monday thru Friday, with possible weekend shifts to complete a road project on the south-side.

The crews are working on Phase Two of the project, happening on Valencia from 12th Avenue east to Campbell. Phase One of the project has already been completed, it was Valencia Road as well, but from Alvernon west to Campbell.

According to city officials, having crews work around the clock, the project will be completed faster and folks will be able to avoid driving on rough surfaces.

Crews are removing the asphalt at night, then in the morning they are repaving the area that was ripped up. This also allows the city to shift traffic during construction.

This project is part of the $100 million, 5-year street bond program that voters approved in 2012.

The city expects Phase Two of this project to be completed by May.

20 years after the fact, Thornydale gets a facelift

20 years ago, residents on Thornydale were promised a four lane road along with pedestrian sidewalks and bike paths. That promise was never kept because the money for the project was allocated somewhere else. So Thornydale, North of Cortaro Farms Road, which carries nearly 30,000 cars a day, deteriorated until it is what it is today, a failed road.
