TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A man is facing federal drug charges after Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents found more than 50 pounds of marijuana and a loaded, small-caliber handgun at a Tucson immigration checkpoint, Wednesday, March 22, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

CBP said the man was going eastbound on Highway 86 when he stopped at the immigration checkpoint and was referred to secondary inspection due to a canine alert.

“Agents searched the vehicle and located two large bricks of marijuana concealed in the walls of the truck’s bed and a .380-caliber handgun in the cab,” said CBP in a recent press release.

The man is currently in custody and is facing federal drug charges. Agents seized the vehicle, weapon and marijuana.

CBP said citizens can report suspicious activity to Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free.
