TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in midtown, according to city police.

The Tucson Police Department said 42-year-old Guthrie Moreno was crossing South Craycroft Road Friday, March 24 just north of the intersection, when he was hit by a GMC Suburban.

Police said the car was traveling northbound on South Craycroft Road in the curb lane when the driver went through the intersection of East 29th Street on a solid green light and hit Moreno.

"The driver remained on scene and advised he did not see the pedestrian until just before the collision occurred," said police in a press release.

The Tucson Fire Department was on the scene and transported Moreno to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Moreno died shortly after getting to the hospital.

Police said speed did not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash and no citations were issued.

Moreno's next of kin has been notified.

The area was closed for several hours for the investigation and drivers were asked to avoid the area.
