TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

For months, Tucson Roadrunners fans have been encouraging team captain Craig Cunningham, who nearly died in a frightening pre-game incident in November, with messages and tweets tagged with the hashtag #Cunnycan.

On Friday, March 31, Cunningham did.

Cunningham, who has been enduring months of rehabilitation after losing part of his left leg and nearly dying from a heart ailment, laced up his skates and took to the ice before the team's morning skate.

He was testing out a prosthetic setup for his skate.

Cunningham collapsed on the ice before a home game against the Manitoba Moose on Nov. 19. According to doctors, Cunningham's heart did not beat on its own for two days after the collapse.

The Roadrunners posted photos of Cunningham's return to the ice on their website HERE.
