Here is your wrap up of what happened with Arizona Wildcats sports teams on Saturday, April 1:
Arizona (10-8) dropped a 4-3 back-and-forth duel to Oregon (11-7) on Saturday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Wildcats got off to an ideal start by taking the doubles point.
Lauren Marker and Paris Corley beat Shweta Sangwan/Rifanty Kahfiani 6-2 while Camila Wesbrooks and Sophia Thomas clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Nia Rose/Janvhi Clark.
Corley won the first singles match over Alyssa Tobita 6-0, 6-4.
Marker picked up the Cats only other singles win with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over Sangwan.
Arizona will travel to the Pacific Northwest next weekend, as they take on Washington (13-5) on Friday, Apr. 7 at 1:30 p.m. MST and Washington State (9-9) on Sunday, Apr. 9 at 11 a.m. MST.
Arizona suffered a 4-0 loss Saturday at the hands of No. 9 California.
“Half our team came to play today and believed that we could win, and the other half did not,” head coach Clancy Shields remarked.
The Wildcats will resume conference action on Friday, April 7th at 2:00 p.m. MST as they are scheduled to take on No. 32 Washington inside of LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
After that match, Arizona will have Saturday to rest before taking on No. 23 Oregon next Sunday in what will be the final home match for seniors Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett.
Randy Labaut pitched six, one-hit innings to pace the 13th ranked Wildcats to a 5-1 win over USC on Saturday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Labaut earned the first win of his career to help Arizona (19-7, 4-4) secure a series victory over the Trojans (15-10, 4-4).
JJ Matijevic and Jared Oliva each drove in a pair of runs. Matijevic’s came on a two-run home run.
Arizona will now go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Rio Gomez is the scheduled starter.
No. 8 Arizona concluded the Wildcat Spring Challenge tournament on Saturday afternoon as they earned victories against CSU Bakersfield, (5-0) and Grand Canyon, (4-1).
UA (11-6) won all four of their matches in the tournament at Bear Down Beach.
The Beach Cats No. 1 pair of Madison and McKenna Witt (13-4) and No. 2 duo of Hailey Devlin and Sam Manley (14-3) lead the team respectively.
Arizona will head back on the road next weekend as they travel to the coast to compete in the UCLA Invite April 8-9.
