TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tuesday, April 4, is your chance to give and save some money on your taxes.

Arizona Gives Day is an online campaign to help out local nonprofits.

And there is one organization that could use your help, so they can help others in southern Arizona.

Habitat for Humanity Tucson has built more than 400 houses in Tucson and right now they need your help to not only build homes, but also make repairs and upgrades to existing ones.

T VanHook, CEO for Habitat Tucson says Habitat for Humanity and nonprofit organizations like it could be greatly affected by the president's proposed budget cuts.

"It’s almost like waging war on the impoverished. If we look at the cuts that the city and county would incur, the supports to people that are already in supported housing, the housing cuts to the organizations that are providing
housing assistance, it could be catastrophic," VanHook said.

Less money going to federal housing programs could leave many more of you in need of a roof over your head.

"Affordable housing is a big problem in southern Arizona and more than just providing new homes, we're helping the aging Tucsonans, veterans and people with disabilities stay in their home." VanHook said.

If you'd like to help Habitat Tucson or any other local organization today, click here: https://www.azgives.org/

And even though today is just one event – you can give throughout the year.

You could earn a credit on your 20-16 taxes all the way up until April 18.
