TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Interested in helping Saguaro National Park's Rincon Mountain District (East) get rid of an invasive grass?  Then this is the event for you.

Volunteers are needed for a buffelgrass pull taking place on Saturday, April 8 beginning at 7 a.m.

Those interested in helping should meet at the Rincon Mountain Visitor Center (3693 S. Old Spanish Trail, Tucson, AZ 85730) at 7 a.m.

This event is an hour earlier than the March event, to avoid the heat of the day.  Parking is in the gravel parking lot, west of the Resources building (first right turn after entering the park, follow the signs to the parking area south of the visitor center parking lot.)   The event should be over by 11 a.m., due to the early start time. Carpooling is encouraged.

Staff and volunteers will drive a short distance to the work site and hike off trail to the buffelgrass pull location, this hike is over moderately challenging terrain, according to a SNP release.

Volunteers should wear and bring the following: long pants, close-toed shoes (hiking boots suggested), a hat, eye protection, sun protection, plenty of water (at least 2 liters), and a snack. Those who are not sufficiently prepared may be turned away.
