TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

University of Arizona freshman Kobi Simmons is leaving school to enter the NBA draft, the school confirmed on Wednesday, April 5.

Simmons, a McDonald's All-American, played in all 37 of the Wildcats games and averaged 8.7 points, 2.0 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game.

"Kobi Simmons, with the support of his family, has decided to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft," said head coach Sean Miller. "All of us here at Arizona thank him for his freshman season and wish him continued success as he pursues his professional career."

Simmons is a 6-foot-5, 175-pound guard from Atlanta.

"I have enjoyed my time at Arizona very much," Simmons said. "I would like to thank my teammates, coaches and our great fans for their support and effort in making my year truly a special one. Bear Down."

The news comes a few days after freshman standout Lauri Markkanen announced he was leaving early from the draft.
