TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson High freshman Carlie Scupin hit a tie-breaking opposite field solo home run in the 6th inning Thursday night to push the 3rd ranked Badgers to an 8-6 win over visiting Sunnyside.

It was the fourth home run in as many games for the UA 2020 commit, giving her now eight in a season in which she missed the team’s first eight games due to injury.

Scupin had just missed a home run in her previous at-bat, an opposite field double that hit half way up the fence down the left field line at Cherry Field.

The Badgers (21-3) have won 15 straight since a March 7 loss to Sahuaro.

Iliana Mendoza had a two-run single for Tucson.

Adriana Lopez and Jaden Espinosa both homered for the Blue Devils (10-7) who lost for a second straight game after reeling off seven straight wins.

Tucson faces Salpointe Catholic on Friday in a 4 p.m road contest.
