TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A chemical spill caused a building evacuation and the closure of a street on the University of Arizona campus, near McKale Center, on Monday, April 10.

The CATS Academic Center was evacuated and will remain closed all day because of the hazardous materials incident, which began at about 8:45 a.m.

According to police, East Enke Drive was closed between North Campbell Avenue and National Championship Drive. The street was reopened just before 1:30 p.m. as cleanup continued after the initial emergency call.

Crews on scene say muriatic acid and bleach were mixed, causing an unsafe scene.

Tucson Fire Department crews contained the spill.
