Sahuarita High School Marching Band headed to State Championship

SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sahuarita High School Marching Band will give a final performance before they leave to compete in the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director’s Association (ABODA) State Championship. 

Friday, Nov. 17, 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Sahuarita High School 350 West Sahuarita Road. 

Sahuarita High School Marching Band is the only southern Arizona marching band to qualify to compete in the 2017 Arizona State Marching Band Championships on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Arizona State University – Sun Devil Stadium. 

On Nov. 4, 2017, at the ABODA State Marching Band Competition, SHS received the award for Outstanding General Effect and moved up in rank to 7th in Division IV qualifying them to compete in the Championship.

Under the direction of Christine Garcia, the Sahuarita High School Marching band has qualified 9 times for the State competition and 3 times for the State Championship. 

Feature trumpet soloists, Cristian Madrigal and Everado Villa, will head out on to the Burton Tingle Field at Earl J. Kelly Stadium with 56 other students to practice from 3:30-5:45 pm prior to the send-off show.
