Fire crews resuscitated a family cat after a fire broke out in the garage of a home in Rita Ranch on Sunday.

The Tucson Fire Department said crews were dispatched to the 10000 block of East Paseo Juan Tabo. Crews said smoke and flames were coming from the attached garage of the home.

Residents inside were able to evacuate safely, TFD said. During a search of the home crews located a pet cat that was unresponsive. Crews resuscitated the cat using a special oxygen mask designed for animals, TFD said.

TFD said crews were able to contain the flames quickly.

The fire caused significant smoke damage throughout the home and the family of five was displaced. The Red Cross was requested and will be providing assistance to the family, TFD said.
