Basis Schools student wins 2018 Pima County Spelling Bee

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A Basis student is the winner of the 2018 Pima County Spelling Bee that was held on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Canyon del Oro High School, in which 46 students participated.

Sai Konkimalla, from Basis Schools took first place after correctly spelling the word - assumption.

Second place went to Ravindu Vithanachchi, from the Catalina Foothills Unified School District, while third place went to Trevlyn Brimhall, from the Vail School District.

Both Sai and Ravindu will advance to the Arizona Educational Foundation State Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 24 in Phoenix.  The two will compete against winners from other spelling bees in Arizona, to represent the state at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
