Pima Softball rallies big to avoid sweep

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Pima split a doubleheader with visiting No. 3 ranked Phoenix (Division II) on Saturday at Aztec Softball Field.

The Aztecs lost Game 1 6-4 and then rallied from an 8-0 first inning hole to win Game 2 10-9 in eight innings.

PCC (17-7, 10-6 ACCAC) dropped a close first game as freshman pitcher Paige Adair suffered a rare loss allowing six earned runs on 12 hits.

Freshman Maria Vanezza-Caldera (Tucson HS) hit the game-winning sacrifice fly RBI to score freshman Vanessa Duarte (Pueblo HS) in the 8th inning of Game 2.

Alyssa Smith (Winslow HS) hit a towering three-run home run to tie the game at 9-9.

The Aztecs will hit the road on Thursday when they play at Glendale Community College. First pitch will be at 1:00 p.m.

    Godley (13-6) snapped a tie with Zack Greinke for the team lead in wins. The right-hander allowed six hits, struck out six and walked one while improving to 5-0 with a 3.09 ERA over his last six road starts.
