TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Arizona Auditor General on Monday, March 5, released its school district spending report for 2017.

The report tracks total spending for each district and includes factors such as instruction, administration, operations, lunch programs, transportation and student support.

Instruction is by far the largest expense and is followed by operations, administration, and student support. Lunch programs and transportation are far behind and cost similar amounts.

Below is the average spending per student for every public school district in Cochise, Pima, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties.

The numbers vary wildly for southern Arizona, with a high of $102,590 per student for the two-student Apache Elementary School District in Cochise County to $7,398 for the 4,351-student J.O. Combs District in Pinal County.

The national average is $12,975 per student while the Arizona average is $9,653.

Cochise County

Apache Elementary School District: $108,590 per student, up from $22,488 in 2016.

Ash Creek Elementary School District: $33,308 per student, down from $40,591 in 2016.

Benson Unified School District: $8,756 per student, up from $8,153 in 2016.

Bisbee Unified School District: $11,457 per student, up from $10,160 in 2016.

• Bowie Unified School District: $25,405 per student, down from $33,513 in 2016.

Cochise Elementary School District: $20,799 per student, up from $19,910 in 2016.

Double Adobe Elementary School District: $16,248 per student, down from $16,396 in 2016.

Douglas Unified School District: $7,941 per student, up from $7,519 in 2016.

Elfrida Elementary School District: $11,328 per student, down from $11,784 in 2016.

McNeal Elementary School District: $13,422 per student, up from $13,230 in 2016.

Naco Elementary School District: $8,293 per student, up from $8,171 in 2016.

Palominas Elementary School District: $8,944 per student, down from $9,412 in 2016.

Pearce Elementary School District: $14,118 per student, up from $13,268 in 2016.

Pomerene Elementary School District: $13,509 per student, down from $17,364 in 2016.

San Simon Unified School District: $15,550 per student, down from $15,998 in 2016.

Sierra Vista Unified School District: $8,330 per student, up from $7,395 in 2016.

St. David Unified School District: $11,452 per student, down from $11,635 in 2016.

Tombstone Unified School District: $9,747 per student, up from $9,341 in 2016.

Valley Union High School District: $15,504 per student, down from $16,251 in 2016.

Willcox Unified School District: $8,701 per student, up from $8,517 in 2016.

Pima County

Ajo Unified School District: $9,020 per student, down from $9,373 in 2016.

Altar Valley Elementary School District: $11,912 per student, up from $10,800 in 2016.

Amphi Unified School School District: $11,076 per student, up from $9,264 in 2016.

Baboquivari Unified School District: $17,905 per student, down from $17,655 in 2016.

Catalina Foothill Unified School District: $9,724 per student, down from $9,756 in 2016.

Continental Elementary School District: $11,138 per student, up from $10,602 in 2016.

Flowing Wells Unified School District: $8,120 per student, up from $7,808 in 2016.

Marana Unified School District: $10,189 per student, up from $10,771 in 2016.

Sahuarita Unified School District: $7,610 per student, up from $7,513 in 2016.

San Fernando Elementary School District: $16,163 per student, down from $22,645 in 2016.

Sunnyside Unified School District: $8,296 per student, up from $8,241 in 2016.

Tanque Verde Unified School District: $7,934 per student, down from $8,110 in 2016.

Tucson Unified School District: $9,908 per student, up from $9,492 in 2016.

Vail Unified School District: $9,029 per student, down from $9,136 in 2016.

Pinal County

Apache Junction Unified School District: $8,290 per student, up from $7,921 in 2016.

Casa Grande Elementary School District: $7,887 per student, down from $7,904 in 2016.

Casa Grande Union High School District: $9,679 per student, up from $8,253 in 2016.

Coolidge Unified School District: $9,956 per student, up from $9,554 in 2016.

Eloy Elementary School District: $10,689 per student, up from $9,292 in 2016.

Florence Unified School District: $7,832 per student, up from $7,786 in 2016.

J.O. Combs Unified School District: $7,398 per student, up from $7,361 in 2016.

Mammoth-San Manuel Unified School District: $9,634 per student, down from $10,174 in 2016.

Maricopa Unified School District: $7,981 per student, up from $7,330 in 2016.

Oracle Elementary School District: $12,033 per student, up from $10,881 in 2016.

Picacho Elementary School District: $9,737 per student, down from $10,194 in 2016.

Ray Unified School District: $10,329 per student, down from $10,426 in 2016.

Red Rock Elementary School District: $8,466 per student, down from $8,669 in 2016.

Sacaton Elementary School District: $23,857 per student, up from $21,308 in 2016.

Santa Cruz Valley Union High School District: $12,452 per student, up from $10,579 in 2016.

Stanfield Elementary School District: $10,831 per student, up from $9,976 in 2016.

Superior Unified School District: $11,866 per student, down from $12,338 in 2016.

Toltec Elementary School District: $8,063 per student, down from $8,171 in 2016.

Santa Cruz County

Nogales Unified School District: $7,591 per student, up from $7,492 in 2016.

Patagonia Elementary School District: $20,396 per student, down from $20,637 in 2016.

Patagonia Union High School District: $20,396 per student, down from $20,637 in 2016.

Santa Cruz Elementary School District: $10,534 per student, up from $9,740 in 2016.

Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District: $7,868 per student, down from $8,056 in 2016.
