ELGIN, AZ (Tucson News Now) - For all of the rum fans out there, Arizona might be the best place to be.
Arizona Craft Beverage's Elgin Distillery, located only an hour from Tucson, took home the Best in Show and and Best in Class awards for their Regalo de Vida Rum at the fifth annual Judging of Craft Spirits by the American Craft Spirits Association.
The winners were selected among more than 500 entrants from 38 states and the District of Columbia.
The distillery's website describes the rum's distilling process as, "100% sugar cane from Sonora Mexico, fermented in 60 gallon barrels. The cane is blended prior to stripping, and each stripping run is tasted and blended prior to the spirit run. The amber color is achieved by aging the rum in used and fairly neutral Bourbon barrels for one year. Clean nose of honeysuckle, pear and piloncillo, with caramel apple, orange flower and breadfruit are distinguishable. (106 Proof)
The award-winning rum and other spirits can be found at the distillery's tasting room from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday.
