Jessie Harper hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and leading ninth-ranked Arizona Softball to a 4-1 victory in the Pac-12 opener over Utah.
Pitcher Taylor McQuillin (15-1) was her usual dominant self for the Wildcats (22-3, 1-0), allowing just three Utah (14-8, 0-1) hits in the complete-game victory.
Arizona and the Utes continue the series on Saturday at 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
Meanwhile up in Seattle, The Washington Huskies used a four-run seventh inning to break open a tight game and top Arizona Baseball 7-1 at Husky Ballpark in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Arizona (10-7, 0-1)
Starter Cody Deason (2-1) took the loss while Josh Haley struggled in relief for the Wildcats allowing four runs on five hits in an inning and two-thirds.
UA stranded ten runners on base.
The Wildcats and Huskies continue their three-game series Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
Left-hander Randy Labaut will be opposed by Washington lefty Lucas Knowles.
