UPDATE: Woodward Canyon fire near Fort Huachuca at 167 acres

FORT HUACHUCA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

In the early afternoon hours of Thursday, March 22, Cochise County officials reported a grass fire on the west side of the Huachuca Mountains north of Fort Huachuca's West Gate.

Five fire crews remained on scene throughout the night working the Woodward Canyon fire. At latest update the fire was at 167 acres burning in a "bowl" of the mountain on Friday, March 23.

Use of air support on Friday consists of two tankers and a helicopter to address the situation before the winds increase from the southwest.

A Type 3 fire team is on scene and managing the assets and fire crews with their usual exceptional expertise.
