PIMA COUNTY, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Pima County workers may be drawing bigger checks in the near future.

In a memo to the board of supervisors, County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said he is proposing a 2 1/2 percent raise for all employees.

This is only the beginning of the budget process so there is no way to know how far the proposal will go.

Huckelberry told the county's 7,000-plus employees the board "may accept, reject or modify my plan."

The raise matches a proposal on the table from the city of Tucson, which wants to give all workers a 2 1/2-percent hike.

The Tucson proposal has been tabled, but the council is expected to discuss it next week.

Both city and county employees have gone years without raises and this is the biggest ones offered in at least a decade.
