BOYS: Sahuaro Volleyball wins The View Invitational

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

9th ranked Sahuaro outlasted Conference 5A top-ranked Mountain View 2-1 (25-22, 18-25, 15-11) Saturday afternoon to win The View Invitational on the Mountain Lions home court.

The Cougars (14-6) entered bracket play as the 6th seed after finishing 2-1 in pool play.

Chris Wharam’s squad however beat Chandler Casteel who had won their Pool B, knocking the Cougars off on Friday and Ironwood Ridge to reach the final against the 2nd seeded Lions.

Wharam is in his first season as head coach at Sahuaro after taking over for the legendary Sandy Novak who retired at the end of last season.

Elijah Elmer led Mountain View with seven kills in a losing cause.

The #1 ranked Lions (17-5) had lost just one set five tournament matches coming into the championship showdown with Sahuaro.

The tournament featured several other of the top local teams in Conference 5A including #6 Ironwood Ridge, #8 Salpointe Catholic and #11 Pueblo.
