TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

"God has risen and proven he is alive and will do great things for us."

Jessica Gonzaga spread this message of hope as she joined hundreds across the Old Pueblo to practice their faith this Easter Sunday.

A stunning sunrise was the backdrop of the traditional service on top of Sentinel Peak on Sunday morning.

It was a special day for hundreds of Tucsonans who took part from the iconic local landmark.

Korii Fitzgerald, who attended the service said, "All of us being from this community have some kind of memory of 'A' Mountain."

With nature as the setting for dozens to start their Easter morning off with prayer, it was a day of family and faith where several traditions came together as one.

Villegas-Kinney has been coming to the service off and on for twenty years. She says it brings her peace and serenity. Her prayers were directed towards the foot of the mountain.

"The experience, the music - it's so inspirational and beautiful," she said. "We pray for the prisoners and for all of the people who really are in great need of prayers."

This long-standing tradition celebrated its 51st year.

On Good Friday, the local group Los Dorados hiked up "A" Mountain to carry the cross used as a centerpiece in today's service.

This year was different, though. The founder of it all, David Herrera, was missing from the service.

However, with each year that passes, the crowds grow. That was no different this time around.

Villegas-Kinney brought her friend, Gonzaga, for her first experience.

Gonzaga appreciated that all walks of life can take part.

"I'm just so happy to see people who have different faiths coming here."
