LAS VEGAS, NV (Tucson News Now) -

The Vegas Golden Knights are attracting attention not because of their impressive win record, but because of a moving tribute by the team.

At their game on Saturday, the first-year NHL team held a banner ceremony, retiring the jersey number 58 in honor of the lives lost in the Las Vegas shooting last year.

In addition to the banner, which will hang permanently in T-Mobile arena, the Knights projected the names of all 58 victims onto the ice before their matchup against the San Jose Sharks.

The referenced shooting took place when gunman Stephen Paddock fired on a crowd of Route 91 Harvest Music Festival concertgoers, leaving 58 dead and 851 injured on October 1, 2017.  One of survivors talked with Tucson News Now earlier this year.

The Golden Knights won their last home game of the season and are now the Pacific Division champions. They are considered to be a strong contender to win the Stanley Cup later this year.
