The Tucson Fire Department is commending the actions of a 17-year-old as he saves his sisters from a house fire.

According to a TFD news release, the 911 center received a call around 12:40 p.m. Friday, April 6 about smoke coming from a home in the 8300 block of East 25th Street, near 22nd and Sarnoff.

Crews arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the call to smoke coming out the front door of the home.  Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, containing it to a single room.

The teen noticed the smoke inside the home and picked up his 6-month-old sister taking her outside. The teen noticed the increase in smoke at the front door, and reentered the home through a bedroom window. During this second trip inside the home, the teen was able to get his 1-year-old sister out safely as well.

Three dogs were also able to safely exit the home.

No injuries were reported, according to TFD.

At this time the five family members and three dogs have been displaced due to smoke and water damage.  They will be receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no total on damage to the home.
