TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit are investigating a homicide that occurred early Friday morning, April 6 on the southwest side near I-10 and Starr Pass Road and are searching for a suspect.

According to a TPD news release, the incident occurred at 1:14 a.m. Friday, when officers from Operations Division South responded to reports of shots fired in the area of West 20th Street and South Farmington Road.

When officers arrived at the scene they found an adult male, identified as 36-year-old Roberto Varela, inside a maroon 2007 Hyundai coupe.  Varela had obvious gunshot trauma, according to the release.  Officers rendered aid to Varela, and the Tucson Fire Department responded to the scene.
