TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Pascua Tribe, Drexel Heights Fire District, Safe Kids Pima County, along with other community partners celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Water Safety Is For You event.

This reward event is for schools who participate in a water safety curriculum program provided by the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona.

9 schools and nearly 700 first graders participated in the teaching the lessons and then the reward event.

Tracy Koslowski from Drexel Heights Fire District & the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona has been with the program all 10 years.

"It's an engaging way for children to learn how to be safe in and around the water. We teach them about swim lessons, water watchers, wearing life vests, and reach or throw don't go," said Koslowski. "They sing about water safety, they read a book about water safety…these kids know their ABC's of water safety without a doubt!"
