Marana High School hires new football coach

MARANA, AZ - Marana High School, within the Marana Unified School District, announces the selection of Louie Ramirez as head football coach. Coach Ramirez has accepted a Physical Education teaching position at Marana High School, in addition to his head football duties.

Coach Ramirez comes to Marana High School after spending the last two years at Northern Arizona University. While at NAU he served as graduate assistant in charge of recruiting, offense and special teams. Coach Ramirez began his coaching career as a student assistant at ASU where he worked with the running backs and corner backs. From there he spent a year as an assistant coach at Marcos de Niza High School where he coordinated special teams and worked with the offensive line. That led to an opportunity at Mesquite High School where he coached the tight ends and running backs. He then went to Truman State where he was the running backs coach for two years.

Coach Ramirez holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications, a Master's of Arts in Leadership, and will be receiving his second masters in May in Educational Leadership and Instructional Leadership.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be the next head football coach at Marana High School," says Coach Ramirez. "Marana has a rich history and the program that Coach Litten has built over the past six years has put Marana in a phenomenal position to be an elite power house in Arizona high school football. I am committed to upholding this tradition of excellence, and I look forward to working with our student-athletes, teachers, administration, and community in the coming years as we continue the tradition of Marana football, as well as prepare and educate students not only on the field, but also in the classroom and as productive citizens so that our students achieve their goals and personal aspirations.

The Coach further states, "My fiancé and I look forward to raising our family in the community of Marana with the birth of our first child this July. I am thankful for the high school and collegiate coaches that have poured into me the past seven years to prepare myself and my family for this opportunity. I am fired up to hit the ground running this off-season having our student-athletes finishing strong in the classroom and preparing for a championship season this fall."

"We are excited to welcome Coach Ramirez to our coaching staff at Marana High School" states Sarah Whaley, MHS Athletic Director. "His experience in coaching as well as his energy, passion, and motivation to the sport makes him a valuable asset to our football program and to our overall physical education program. We are confident that Coach Ramirez will be a positive leader and uphold the vision and pride that we have for our students at Marana High School."

Information regarding a "Meet the Coach" event will be announced within the next several weeks.
