UPDATE: One person dead after early morning pedestrian collision

The Tucson Police Department said one person is dead after a collision involving a pedestrian on the south side.

TPD said officers responded to a report of a serious injury collision involving a pedestrian on west Valencia Road near Santa Clara Avenue around 3:00 a.m. on Saturday.

When officers got to the scene they located an unresponsive man in the roadway and a woman was performing CPR on him, TPD said.

Paramedics arrived on scene and continued treatment on the man and he was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, TPD said.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the man succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.

He has been identified as 25-year-old Moises Virgen.

Investigators said Virgen was crossing Valencia Road northbound, just west of south Santa Clara Road, wearing dark clothing. TPD said he was not in a crosswalk.

The driver was traveling westbound on Valencia in the median lane and did not see Virgen before striking him, TPD said.

The driver remained on scene and called 911. Speed and impairment do not appear to be a factor in this collision, TPD said.
