TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, April 17, Tucson Unified School District superintendent, Dr. Gabriel Trujillo talked about the possibility of a teacher walkout.
He said he supported walk-ins and the "Red For Ed" campaign, but he cannot support any actions that take teachers away from the classroom.
The district is working on a contingency plan if there is a walkout.
The superintendent is working with the food staff, transportation, legal team and communications department to help the students if the teachers take action.
Trujillo said if the walkout happens schools will not physically close. They will remain open with very basic services and there won't be teachers instructing.
The teachers have until Thursday morning, April 19, to cast their vote on whether to walk out or not.
