BB: Falcons beat Lancers; set up rematch with Nogales

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Dante DeNiro’s three-run home run Wednesday night backed a solid outing by Tyler Thomas on the mound as #2 Catalina Foothills beat 7th ranked Salpointe Catholic 12-3 in a Conference 4A Kino League baseball game.

The win for the Falcons (19-6, 6-1) avenged a 9-5 setback to the Lancers March 27 and sets up a section championship showdown Friday night on Sunrise Dr. between Catalina Foothills and defending state champion Nogales (23-4, 6-1).

CFHS beat the top-ranked Apaches 15-12 in Nogales on Tuesday night.

Playing for a second straight evening did not seem to faze the Falcons as they took control of the game early scoring four runs in the first two innings off Lancers' starting pitcher Ian Ponce.

Thomas went all the way for CFHS allowing just one earned run on four hits.

Noah Cullen also homered for Catalina Foothills who stole eight bases in the game and tacked on five late runs in the 6th inning thanks to five walks by Salpointe Catholic reliever Ryan Grabosch.

Daniel Durazo had a pair of hits for Salpointe Catholic (16-11, 3-5).
