Buena High School grad Juan Aguilera (’14) may have just pitched himself into the weekend conversation for Arizona Baseball.
The senior posted the best outing of his two-season Wildcat career Tuesday night shutting out the BYU Cougars on two hits over seven innings.
Spanning back to last season, the right-hander pitcher has given up just four earned runs over his last 36 1/3 innings pitched.
This season, Aguilera is 5-0 with a 1.17 ERA in 30 2/3 innings.
Three of his wins have come in his four starts and he has allowed just one earned run (0.39 ERA) in those outing.
Aguilera has struck out 24 this season and opposing batters are hitting just .225 against him.
Over his final four appearances last year, Aguilera didn’t give up a run over 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit, three walks and four strikeouts.
He earned the win in Arizona’s victory over Delaware in the NCAA Tournament.
A product of nearby Sierra Vista, Aguilera has had a long journey to this point, spending the first two years of his college career at Cochise College.
