TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The champs are still on top of the throne

Three days after Nogales suffered a 15-12 home loss to Catalina Foothills, the Apaches returned the favor to win the game that matters most.

Right now anyway.

Top-ranked Nogales beat the #2 Falcons 8-1 Friday night to win the Conference 4A Kino Region championship.

The Apaches (24-4, 7-1) got a superb performance on the mound from junior German Fajardo.

Their offense pounded out ten hits including a home run from Alec Acevedo.

The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for Catalina Foothills (19-7, 7-2).

Nogales will begin defense of their state championship when the Conference 4A state tournament gets underway next Saturday (April 28).
