TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson police are investigating a homicide on the southwest side and have released the name of the victim as 20-year-old David Alvarez.

According to Sgt. Pete Dugan of the Tucson Police Department, officers responded to the scene at 1801 W. Ajo Way around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25.

TPD received a report of an injured man lying in a parking lot, and when officers arrived at the scene they found Alvarez unresponsive with obvious signs of trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives with the TPD Gang Unit took over the investigation after learning that Alvarez had known gang affiliations, according to a TPD news release. TPD is not sure if the incident is gang related though, as details are limited, they did learn that it did not take place in the parking lot where the victim was found.
