TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - It was four fire extinguishers and nearby helpful residents that kept a midtown apartment fire from consuming the entire apartment, confining it to just the living room according to a news release from the Tucson Fire Department.

TFD crews were dispatched after several reports of smoke and flames coming from a first floor apartment in the 3000 block of East 3rd, near Speedway and Country Club.

Smoke detectors were going off when crews arrived at the scene, to find a small fire in the living room. It took 24 firefighters to control the fire in just eight minutes.

According to the news release, crews searched the apartment and found it unoccupied at the time of the fire.  Two residents will be displaced and the Red Cross is assisting.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no estimate on the cost of the damage.
