TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - As the statewide walkout enters its fifth day, frustration is brewing among teachers, students and parents.

Teachers taking part in the walkout say they feel it's the only way to get the attention of the governor and lawmakers.

But the demonstration has left parents scrambling to make arrangements for childcare and wondering when their child's school would reopen.

Some parents who stood alongside teachers at #RedForEd rallies said it's a short-term sacrifice necessary for a better future for Arizona students.

"I think that it's really important to look long-term. This is a short-term inconvenience … but for long-term sustainable funding, I think that it's necessary," said one parent.

But other parents like John Mallow say the walkout went too far.

As a father of three students, Mallow said he understands teachers' demands. However, he thinks there are other ways to fight for change.

"There is a way to get your increases and do these things the proper way, but you don't impact the students," he said.
