TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Police responded to the scene of shooting on Tucson's southeast side Sunday night.

The department sent out an alert just before 6:00 p.m. stating Pantano Road between Stella Road and Escalante Road would be blocked off for the investigation.

Sgt. Pete Dugan, a department spokesman, followed up with an update to the alert.

He said a white car was targeted in an apparent drive-by shooting. A man and a woman inside were hit. Both are expected to survive.

Dugan said a toddler in the backseat was not hurt.

As of 7:00 p.m. Sunday, no description of the suspect car is available.

The department's gang unit is investigating what happened. Dugan said the shooting was not a random crime. Police believe the victims were targeted.

The stretch of Pantano Road is expected to be closed for several hours.
