TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is helping pet owners celebrate National Pet Month by discounting their spay and neuter fees in the month of May.
Kitten and cat spay and neuters are $5, plus a mandatory $5 e-collar. Puppy and dog spay and neuters are $15, plus the $5 e-collar.
To qualify for the procedure, pets must be three months to three years old and less than 60 pounds. Appointments are required. Call 520-881-0321 to schedule an appointment.
HSSA's Spay and Neuter Clinic is located at 635 W. Roger Road.
According to the Humane Society, spaying or neutering your pet decreases its risk of getting cancer. It also benefits the community by keeping population levels under control.
"Spaying and neutering your pets can prevent cancer and have behavioral benefits. Above all it helps us fight pet overpopulation. At any given time there are around 500 pets in our care that are waiting to find a loving forever home. Imagine what that number would look like if more people could afford to spay and neuter their pets," Chief Operations Officer Brandy Burke said in a news release.
Of course, there are other ways to celebrate this special month. The Humane Society suggests going on more walks, sharing some healthy treats, or taking your pet in for a check-up to make sure they are happy and healthy.
