TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A pedestrian has died from injuries sustained in a crash on the southwest side of Tucson.
The Tucson Police Department said officers responded to West Valencia Road and South Midvale Park Road at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, for a report of a serious injury collision involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located a man in the roadway with significant injuries. He was immediately taken to Banner University Medical Center, TPD said.
TPD said he was pronounced dead at the hospital. He has been identified as 31-year-old Michael P. Thomas.
Detectives said Thomas was crossing Valencia at Midvale Park Road from south to north. He was in the crosswalk, but was crossing against the traffic signal, TPD said.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was traveling west on Valencia in the curb lane on a green light and struck Thomas as he entered the curb lane, TPD said. The driver remained on scene and was not injured.
TPD said speed and impairment were not a factor in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing and no citations or arrests have been made at this time.
