TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - For the last year, Gospel Rescue Mission has been looking for a new location for a shelter.
This comes after a fire code enforcement in South Tucson at the current shelter required GRM to go from 140 beds to 55.
The group had been looking at different places in the community. Then this fall Humberto Lopez purchased the old Holidome near Palo Verde and Irvington. Lopez approached Gospel Rescue about moving the shelter there.
It turns out it's a perfect fit.
There will be some remodeling that needs to be done. The ballroom of the hotel will be home to 150 emergency shelter beds. They will also have 50 casitas that will be for the men's recovery area.
The kitchen will be able to serve nearly 1,000 meals a day. Plus there will be more room for staff to work.
