NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Nogales police officer Jesus Cordova was killed by a carjacking suspect on Friday, April 27.

On Monday, May 14, Cordova's wife Alyssa penned a letter to the community to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support her family received.

Below is a copy of Alyssa's letter in English and Spanish.

On behalf of the Cordova and Salazar families, we would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring love and support during this time of grief and sorrow.

Jesus was very proud to serve the community he loved and its beautiful people have reciprocated his passion. Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice to ensure his children, family, friends and fellow Nogalians would live to see another day. His daily mission was to serve and protect; Jesus completed his mission honorably and wholeheartedly.

Nogales and communities throughout the Great State of Arizona and around our Nation have joined forces in prayer, contributions, and overwhelming support and for that, we are forever grateful. Our mission as his family will continue to reflect on Jesus’ commitment and dedication to serve and protect our people.

Although too many to mention, we are at a loss for words to give thanks to the numerous organizations and individuals who have made sure that Jesus’ sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

As his family, we ask of our community that Jesus’ name and legacy never be forgotten. To our brothers and sisters in uniform, honor Jesus by protecting your badge and wearing it as proudly as he did!

God Bless You All
