Apaches Again

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - It wasn't a fluke.

Nogales won their first baseball title in 36 years in 2017 and they followed it up with a second championship Monday night beating Catalina Foothills 3-2 at Hi Corbett Field to claim the Conference 4A championship.

It's the 11th baseball title in school history and first time the Apaches have won back-to-back since they won three straight in 1954-56.

Nogales (31-5) scored all their runs in the third inning off Falcons starter Cole Altherr (5-1) on RBI singles by Kevin Jimenez, Jesus Lopez and Jorge Bojorquez.

That was plenty for Apaches starting pitcher Markie Lopez (7-1) who struck out ten in pitching a complete game.

Catalina Foothills (25-8) remains winless in now five state championship game appearances.
